23rd July – Remembering the Revolutionary Chandrashekhar Azad on His Birth Anniversary

On the birth anniversary of Amar Balidaani Chandrashekhar Azad, we bow our heads in reverence to one of the bravest sons of Bharat, whose life was a shining example of unparalleled courage, sacrifice, and unwavering devotion to the motherland.

Born on 23 July 1906, Azad dedicated his youth to the cause of India’s freedom. Inspired by the call for independence, he became a leading revolutionary of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA) and played a pivotal role in the struggle against British colonial rule.

When arrested as a young boy during the Non-Cooperation Movement, he declared his name to be “Azad” (Free), his father’s name “Swatantrata” (Freedom), and his address “Jail.” From that day onward, he vowed that the British would never capture him alive—a promise he fulfilled with extraordinary resolve.

On 27 February 1931, while surrounded by British forces at Alfred Park in Allahabad, Chandrashekhar Azad fought fearlessly until his last bullet. Rather than surrender, he chose to sacrifice his own life, keeping his pledge to remain forever “Azad.” His final act became an enduring symbol of courage, honour, and an unbreakable spirit.

His story reminds us that freedom was earned through the sacrifices of countless brave men and women who placed the nation above their own lives. As we remember Chandrashekhar Azad today, let us honour not only his martyrdom but also his ideals of patriotism, discipline, self-respect, and unwavering commitment to the nation.

May his life continue to inspire every Indian to serve the country with integrity, courage, and a deep sense of responsibility.
