July 10, 2025: Guru Purnima Day
AVS
Guru Purnima Day
Gurus, spiritual teachers, and great ascetics are worshipped and honored on the full moon day of the month of Ashadha! This auspicious day, which is also the birthday of the world guru, Veda Vyasa Maharshi, is celebrated as Guru Poornima by all spiritual centers, monasteries, and ashrams in India like a grand festival! Therefore, this day is also known as Vyasa Purnima. (It is believed that Vyasa Maharshi composed the Brahma Sutra, one of the three great books, on this day.)
Ashadha Pournami, Guru Poornima, is an extremely auspicious day for all seekers and seekers of spiritual knowledge and the ultimate truth!
This is a day when we can remember all the Gurus and the Guru Paramparas, starting from the Supreme Lord and reaching our Guru! These are not the ones to be remembered for just one day. We should keep them in our memory throughout our lives, even at the time of death! The disciple and the Guru have a soul bond that cannot be separated even by death! The Guru is the manifest God sent by God to help us achieve our life’s goal and remove all sorrows and sufferings!
If we fail to achieve our life’s goal, then this is also a day to pay homage to the great Gurus who come in the next births or even the next worlds and take us by the hand, teach us with love and wisdom, sometimes reprimand and correct us, teach us spiritual knowledge, and provide education in Sanatana Dharma, leading us to God!
The Guru is the one who dispels the darkness of ignorance and gives us the light of knowledge. The Sadguru is the embodiment of compassion who removes the ignorance of his disciples and leads them on the right path of God by holding their hands! The truth is that God comes before us in the form of a Guru to lead us to salvation!!
“Without a Guru, one cannot progress.” Science says that one can achieve true success in this world and the next and attain perfection through the ultimate goal of life, Moksha or God-realization, only through a good Guru!
Isn’t it only when we get a good Guru that we can understand at least a little about the truth? Sant Kabir Das says: “If God and the Guru appear before me at the same time, I will first greet the Guru and only then bow down to the Lord, because the Guru showed me God.”
There are many examples of great changes in the lives of past-born saints when they come under the guidance of a good Guru! Let us recall only a few of them. Narendra, a rational young man, became the world-famous Swami Vivekananda after becoming the beloved disciple of Sri Ramakrishna?! Balakrishna Menon, an atheist and revolutionary journalist, became Swami Chinmayananda after becoming a disciple of Srimad Swami Sivanandaji.
When father, mother, wife, children, brothers or friends hesitate to take up our karmas, a Sadguru also accepts the karmas of his disciples and gives them the feeling of God. Therefore, it can be said that there is no relationship on earth better than the Guru-Shishya relationship!! True disciples are those who offer unconditional love and devotion to the Guru. The Guru, who has achieved this by suffering and suffering, compassionately passes on to his disciples; He raises his disciples to himself through various initiations! Therefore, the Guru is like a spiritual father and mother to his disciples. There are even teachers in Arsha Bharat who want their disciples to rise above him.
The Guru Gita is the main divine hymn that describes the supreme importance of the Guru. One of the ideas of Guru Mahima in it is: “If the gods get angry, the Guru will stop it. If the Guru gets angry, no one can stop it or save it!” That is the Guru’s greatness!! “Gurukripa hi kevalam shishya parama mangalam” – Guru’s grace alone bestows supreme auspiciousness on the disciples.
On this holy day, when we should worship Guru and offer Guru Dakshina, we should also understand what real Guru Dakshina is. The true Guru Dakshina is when the disciple dedicates his remaining life to God, the Guru’s lineage, and Sanatana Dharma! That is the pledge of complete dedication that we should take on this auspicious day!
I offer my obeisances to the Supreme Guru, Dakshinamurthy, who answered all the questions raised by his disciples through silence (through inner knowledge), and to the billions of sages, gurus and gurus who maintain the spiritual splendor of India. On this Guru Purnima day, I pray that by the blessings and mercy of Shri Parameshwara, the Arsha Gurus and the Gurus, humanity will be blessed with all kinds of goodness and good fortune…!
We, the disciples, offer our obeisances a billion times at the feet of Shri. K. R. Manoj Ji, the Lord and revered teacher of the Arsha Vidya Samaj,…! May He enable us to serve God, Guru and Dharma until our last breath!! May He guide us to the goal of our birth, liberation, through this divine path, O Great Guru…!
I pray that your greatness, fame and spiritual influence will guide millions of people to the path of Sanatana Dharma…!
Happy Guru Purnima….
