Renowned for his exposition of Yoga and Vedanta, he came to be widely regarded as a representative of Indian culture and Sanatana Dharma. Swami Vivekananda Ji became a bridge between the East and the West, fostering dialogue and understanding in the fields of philosophy, religion, and science.

Before embracing monastic life, Swami Vivekananda Ji was known as Narendranath Datta. This then little-known Indian monk rose to international prominence at the World’s Parliament of Religions held in Chicago in 1893, where he represented Hindu Dharma.

His profound knowledge of both Eastern and Western cultures, together with his vast knowledge, combined with his inspiring oratory, brilliant conversational skill, and broad humanistic values made him an irresistible and deeply admired personality in the Western world.

Narendranath Datta Ji, who later became known as Swami Vivekananda , was a disciple of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. In 1902, having fulfilled his mission, he attained Mahasamadhi. Although he lived on earth for only 39 years, the revered Swamiji departed after leaving immortal contributions to the world.

He founded the Ramakrishna Mission, with its headquarters at Belur Math in West Bengal. The organization works to spread Hindu spiritual culture in India, the United States, and many other parts of the world.

Swami Vivekananda Ji was deeply influenced by the teaching of his Guru, Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, that ‘all living beings are embodied expressions of the Divine’. Inspired by this truth, Swamiji declared that through serving humanity we can serve Parameswara

After the Mahasamadhi of Sri Ramakrishna Ji, Swami Vivekananda Ji travelled extensively across India and witnessed firsthand the true condition of British India. During his travels, the extreme poverty and backwardness suffered by the common people deeply moved him. He was the first spiritual leader to openly declare that the neglect of the masses was one of the principal causes of India’s decline.

He later travelled to the United States to represent India at the World’s Parliament of Religions, where he delivered his historic address beginning with the words, “Sisters and Brothers of America…”. Thereafter, he delivered hundreds of public and private lectures and conducted classes across the United States, Europe, and England, spreading the fundamental principles of Hindu philosophy.

To carry out his vision of spreading education and uplifting the poor and women, Swami Vivekananda Ji felt the need for an organization of dedicated individuals. As he later said, his aim was to “set in motion a machinery which will bring the noblest ideas (Sanatana Dharma) to the doorstep of even the poorest and the most neglected.” To serve as this “machinery,” he founded the Ramakrishna Mission in 1897.

The Mission went on to focus its activities on India and other parts of the world through the establishment and management of hospitals, schools, colleges, hostels, and rural development centres, as well as by providing relief and rehabilitation to victims of earthquakes, floods, and other natural disasters.

Swami Vivekananda Ji left this world at the young age of 39. Yet, within his brief lifetime, he made extraordinary and enduring contributions. He harmonized India’s ancient spiritual heritage with the dynamism and energy of the West.

If we are seeking God, Swamiji’s words can guide us:

“To succeed, you must have tremendous perseverance and extraordinary willpower. The soul with perseverance says, ‘I will drink the ocean; by my will, I will shatter mountains.’ Have that kind of energy, work with such determination, and you will reach your goal.”

Swamiji’s advice to those who long to realize God:

“Give up all other thoughts and worship God with your whole heart, day and night. Thus, when you seek the Parameswara day and night, He reveals Himself and makes His presence felt by the devotee.”

Hundreds of millions of humble pranams at the holy lotus feet of the great revolutionary spiritual Guru who called upon us to fulfil the supreme mission of protecting and promoting Sanatana Dharma.

<iframe title="Remembering Swami Vivekananda on His Mahasamadhi Day #SwamiVivekananda #SanatanaDharma #Bharat" width="500" height="281" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/wveJVlkMC5U?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer;
